Quilting is more than a hobby

Some say quilting is a hobby. Some say quilting is a craft. Some say it is an expensive, PILE making hobby. Well, that last one was said by my husband. But, in his defense he also said quilting was cheaper than a psychiatrist.

I feel quilting is a ministry. It is a ministry to every person I make a quilt for. Every quilt I make, I craft for someone specifically. I pray for that person as I select the pattern. I pray for that person as I select the fabrics. I pray for them as I stitch the seams. And I pray for them as I quilt it. In addition, there are certain people or events, national and local, that I pray for as I pick up a certain color of fabric. "Oh, this is purple. Time to pray for so and so or such and such." This practice keeps people at the forefront of my mind. It keeps me from being task oriented and helps me to be more people oriented.

I challenge you to think of quilting as more than a hobby. Think of it as a ministry. Think of it as an opportunity to pray for those you are making the quilt for and for others.

Until we meet again,
Robin
